Soroptimist is an international volunteer organization of business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls in their local communities and around the world. Sedona International of Sedona, sponsored by the Flagstaff club, was chartered October 3, 1959, at a dinner held at Rainbow's End. Betty Beck Prosser, Governor of Pacific region, presented the charter to 24 members with Adelia Kuhn as its first president. The club met the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at the Oak Creek Owl. Service projects in early years centered around support for the library fund, a Christmas tea for older women, Girls' Ranch, the Chamber
of Commerce, scholarships and contributions to Sunrise Easter Service and the Art Center. Fund raisers supporting these service projects varied from fashion shows,
antique shows, wine tasting events, rummage and bake sales and orders taken for See's Candy sales. Since 1978 See's candy has been
the major on-going fund raiser for SI Sedona. Operated out of the Candy Wagon four times a year, net sales allows the club toaward
up to $14,000 annually to local charities.
VISION: The vision of SI of Sedona is to be the premier service organization concerned for the well-beingof women and girls within the community and to support regional and international service objectives.
MISSION: The mission of SI Sedona is to promote goodwill, understanding and friendship for: the advancement of the status of women, high ethical standards, human rights for all and equality, development and peace within the community and the world
